Welcome
The Wilmington Academy of Music is the region's premier center for the study of music. Founded in
1987, the Academy offers comprehensive instruction in virtually all instruments, including brass, woodwinds,
percussion, strings, piano, guitar, and voice. Our facility features classrooms specifically dedicated
to the study of particular instruments, as well as areas for group lessons and recitals.
Founder Nancy McAllister has conducted orchestras from all over the country, and is a former concert master of the
Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. She has taught in universities and public schools in Iowa, Illinois, Michigan,
and North Carolina, and organized the current string program in the New Hanover County schools. Many of her former
students are performing and/or teaching professionally thoughout the United States.
Opportunities for learning through our private lessons include:
- Marter classes which offer the chance to work with regionally and nationally renowned artists in an intimate environment. These are offered throughout the year.
- Monthly recitals that are important in perfecting performance skills, poise and technique.
- Group lessons offer the chance to play together with other students.
The staff at the Academy of Music will work with you to determine what will help you achieve your goals and will develop a plan designed specifically for you.
